Hunter trumps my love for iced coffee, but it is a close race there for first.
This is by far, is the best way to make iced coffee. The first time I tried it I couldn’t believe that it was made from the same beans that my morning cup of coffee was made from. The flavor doesn’t even compare! There’s something about the tannins, and the whozits… yeah yeah yeah. All I know is when you cold brew coffee it has this unbelievable smoothness, and a crazy caramel flavor that you don’t find when you use hot water and a conventional coffee maker.
This is a super easy method for making cold brewed coffee, and I guarantee you already have all the things to do it in your kitchen.

How to Cold Brew Coffee
Ingredients and Supplies:
- 2 cups of your favorite ground coffee *I do love my Dunkin Donuts (I am a East Coast girl after all) but I haven’t had luck cold brewing their beans. I can’t tell you why! I use Trader Joe’s New Mexico Pinon Coffee and it delicious.
- 12 cups room temperature filtered water
- 1 dishtowel that isn’t fuzzy, and doesn’t have big holes. A cheesecloth works too if you have one.
- 2 large bowls (enough to hold 14 cups)
- Large colander
- Large pitcher
- In a large bowl, combine coffee and water and stir until all grounds are wet. Cover and set in fridge for 12 hours, (or if your house is cool on the counter works too.)
- Stir coffee periodically, about every 3 hours if you can.
- Remove coffee from fridge after 12 hours and stir.
- Set second large bowl in the sink and the colander over it. Line the colander with the dishtowel, and slowly pour the coffee and grinds into the colander, making sure the towel stays in place.
- Coffee should drain through into lower bowl, leaving only the grinds in the towel. Twist up the grinds in the towel and squeeze out the excess coffee.
- Remove colander and pour coffee into a pitcher!
