Vegan Pink Protein Smoothie

I’ve been singing praises of hemp hearts for a while now (ie this hemp heart salad with bok choy). I eat them every day, usually in more than one meal but this smoothie is one that I have for sure every morning. I really like them because they have a pretty mellow nutty flavor and blend super well, even improving the consistency of smoothies. I’ve tried hemp protein powder but I actually like it less because I find that it is grainy and doesn’t blend as well with smoothies because a lot of times includes the shell of the seed, not just the heart which is the softer, more important part.

Hemp hearts are super high in protein (10 grams per 3 Tbsp), which is twice as much as chia or flax (check this chart out). Besides being high in omega-3’s, and omega-6, hemp is also high in Omega-6 GLA which is good for skin and hair health and balancing hormones.

Again, like with my smoothie bowl, I find that the Vitamix really gives you the best texture here, but it is totally possible to make this without one.
